SHORT UPDATE
I think we are loosing the informational war – there are so many
russian informational sources, and not so much georgian ones.
I will try to keep you up-to-date with happenings in my country.
Hereby I am asking all of my fellow georgian bloggers (and all other
internet freaks) to start write in english – for the international
society.
First of all – all of our internet providers, as well as mobile
operators are either blocker or are working very slowly.
Second, I am away from Tbilisi right now and don’t have a charger for
my mobile, so if tomorrow comes no info, don’t be afraid
Or BE afraid
Now some update on situation:
It seems that georgian troops (our troops, I have a couple of my
friends in the army) have left South Ossetian territory and are
moving to Tbilisi.
I would say we have lost the round.
Russian fuckin “peacekeepers” have bombed almost every town of
Georgia, as well capital Tbilisi – not directly the centre of the
city, but some targets. One of such targets was the international
airport of Tbilisi.
Right now I hear couple of jet-fighters flying around – 40 km near
Tbilisi.
Now the BIG sensation for the whole world:
There is and newer was such country like SOUTH OSSETIA.
Ossetian people (in the Middle Ages also known as Alan people) are
mostly living in northern Caucasus (in Russia).
In the soviet times (Georgia was annexed by russians in 1921) the
communist regime decided to make an artificial “south ossetian
autonomous republic” on georgian land – since very many ossetians
from northern Caucasus migrated from Russia to Georgia to find better
work and living conditions.
So, please imagine, what would an american guy say, if one day, all
of a sudden, Ohio would declare self-independence.
Or, if population of some southern french province would want to
leave France and become a part of Spain.
Or if bavarians one day said – they are not germans anymore.
I have even better german case – if suddenly the german turks would
like to establish their own country in Germany.
Now you can more or less imagine what is happening here.
Georgian people always hoped to reunite with Samatchablo Region
(historical name of the territory with capital Tskhinvali), to
establish there normal life conditions for georgians as well as
ossetians.
We tried – for more than 15 years – to cooperate with them, to find
some ways of conflict resolution, but unfortunately we have a big and
bad neighbor here – the Russia.
After the conflict in early 90s the UN interfered and Russia became a
mandate for peacekeeping mission. So the russian troops are now (for
15 years) based in Samatchablo and in Abkhazia as peace-keepers.
But the case is, that Russia is NOT neutral in this conflict.
Russians are very well interested – and interested in becoming of
some new (and very beautiful) land.
Excuse me for being pathetic, and sorry for my terrible english. I
hope I have answered some of your questions.
Also sorry for being unable to answer the comments – I don’t have
time and possibility for that. But I read the comments and will
answer to them as posts – so feel free to ask me about everything.
P.S. Russian troops have taken Kutaisi, Poti, Senaki, Zugdidi, Gori
and heading toward Tbilisi.
